
Mars Hill topples Saints in SAC opener

MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill women's basketball team (4-1, 1-0 SAC) defeated Limestone (3-1, 1-0 SAC) by a score of 80-58 in their South Atlantic Conference opener Wednesday night inside Chambers Gymnasium.
The Lions held a nine-point advantage after the first 10 minutes of play with Landyn Stewart's six points leading the team. Both Naja Ngongba and Aaliyah El added four apiece. In the second, Maddie Gillie netted a team-high six points while Jadyiah Peoples added five.
In a high scoring third quarter, the teams combined for 51 points with the Lions netting 30 in the penultimate stanza. Mars Hill shot nearly 63 percent from the floor, hitting 7-of-10 free throws. Gillie led all players with nine points while El and Ngongba added five apiece.
The Lions closed out their fourth win of the season outscoring Limestone 13-12 in the fourth with El scoring six points. Tateyoina Harris led the Lions with five rebounds in the frame.
Mars Hill shot over 45 percent from the floor with El going 7-of-11 on the night for 16 points. She, along with Harris, also pulled down a team-high eight rebounds. Gillie led all players with 18 points. Ngongba ended the night with 11 points.
Mars Hill returns to the court on Saturday, November 23 when they face Anderson. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. inside Chambers Gymnasium.
