Women's Socccer Defeats Erskine, 2-1
The Lions’ women’s soccer team defeated Erskine College, 2-1, Wednesday night at the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium. The Lions improved to 1-5-2 on the year. The Flying Fleet fell to 1-6 overall.

MARS HILL, N.C. – The Lions' women's soccer team defeated Erskine College, 2-1, Wednesday night at the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium. The Lions improved to 1-5-2 on the year. The Flying Fleet fell to 1-6 overall.
Jamie Morris gave the Flying Fleet a 1-0 advantage at the 38:54 mark when she hit a shot from around 25 yards out. The score was unassisted. That was all the scoring the first half would see. MHU outshot Erskine 8-3 in the first frame.
Leah Taylor tied the match for the Lions in the 75th minute off a rebound. Catherine Watkins-Banks recorded the assist on the goal.
Rachel Weber notched the Match winner for the Lions at the 80:40 mark scoring on a header off a corner kick. The ball was sent in by Haley Peterson. It was Weber's fourth goal of the season.
Mars Hill outshot Erskine, 21-3. Corner kicks were even at three each while the Lions were called offsides five times. Maslyn Greene played all 90 minutes in goal for MHU and made one save. Ashton Burgess also played the entire match in the net for the Flying Fleet and made eight saves.
Mars Hill will host SAC rival Wingate University on October 4. Match time is slated for 5 p.m.
