MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill Lions women's soccer team returned to Ammons Family Athletic Center and came away with a 1-0 victory over Southern Wesleyan University. Breona Tate scored the lone goal.
Tate put the Lions up 1-0 with her first of the season. Sophomore Maegan Didden put the ball on Tate's right foot at the top right corner of the box and she shot it against the grain as the ball snuck inside the far left post behind goalkeeper Jen Golio at 10:23 of the first half.
The second half saw a chippy affair between the Lions and Warriors. Mars Will was guilty of four yellow cards.
The Warriors put nine shots on net with Lions' goalkeeper Kaitlyn Danglemaier making five saves for her first victory of the year.
Head coach Jamey Newsome had nothing but glowing remarks for his team after the victory.
"It was a terrific team effort from the girls tonight. The team has been putting in the work and this was well deserved. We hope to build on this and aim to keep improving."
The Lions return to action on Tuesday, September 5 against King. The contest is slated to start at 7 p.m.
