Lions shutout against conference rival

SALISBURY, N.C. - Mars Hill dropped their third straight contest against conference foe Catawba College Saturday evening by a score of 4-0 on the road.
The Indians struck twice in each half and were led by two goals from Jovana Sanchez.
Her first of the season came from a free kick inside the Mars Hill box from 12 yards out. It beat Lions' goalkeeper Kaitlyn Danglemaier to put the Indians up 1-0 in the 13' minute.
Sanchez's second tally came in the 82' minute, roofing a shot in the top left corner for the final goal of the evening.
Between Sanchez's strikes, Bailey Howell put Catawba up by two in the 25' minute with her first goal of the season. Abbie Bensted extended the lead to 3-0 just over nine minutes into the second half.
Danglemaier made seven saves in the losing effort. Aleonya Hunter led the Lions with three shots.
Mars Hill falls to 1-4-1 and 0-2 in conference play. Catawba is 2-2 after picking up the victory in their first conference match.
The Lions return home Wednesday, September 20 to take on Wingate University at the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium. The contest is slated for a 5 p.m. start time.
