Lions battle back late, fall in double OT
After tying the game late in regulation, the Mars Hill women's soccer team ultimately fell in double overtime, 3-2, to Lincoln Memorial Wednesday afternoon. Leah Hairfield's goal to start the comeback bid broke the Lions' four-game scoreless drought.

HARROGATE, Tenn. - After tying the game late in regulation, the Mars Hill women's soccer team ultimately fell in double overtime, 3-2, to Lincoln Memorial Wednesday afternoon. Leah Hairfield's goal to start the comeback bid broke the Lions' four-game scoreless drought.
Trailing by two in the final ten minutes, Hairfield put the Lions on the scoreboard with her first of the season. The goal came in the 82' minute as Hairfield collected the loose ball and shot it past goalkeeper Brooke Taylor.
Just over a minute later, Hunter would strike to tie the game at two. A feed from Alyssa Deno was quickly shot into the back of the net.
The Lions outshot Lincoln Memorial all contest, 27-19, but the final shot of the game was the only one that mattered for the Railsplitters.
Less than one minute into the second overtime frame, Palisa Chipendo scored her second of the match and third of the season, speeding past the Mars Hill defense and beating Kaitlyn Danglemaier.
Chipendo opened the scoring in the 10' minute taking a pass from Melissa Carpenter and sneaking it inside the right post.
Less than three minutes into the second half, Carpenter would pick up her second assist of the contest. Her corner kick found the head of Mariana Diaz to put the Railsplitters up by two.
Lincoln Memorial improves to 7-7 (2-6 SAC) as Mars Hill falls to 2-10-1 (1-7 SAC).
The Lions return to action Saturday, October 21 when they take on Newberry. Contest is slated for a 1 p.m. start.
