The Mars Hill women's soccer team (1-1) was defeated by Barton (1-1) by a score of 2-0 in their home opener Sunday afternoon inside the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium.

MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill women's soccer team (1-1) was defeated by Barton (1-1) by a score of 2-0 in their home opener Sunday afternoon inside the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium.
The Bulldogs struck early as Iris Gissuradottir netted her first of the season just 48 seconds into the contest. Barton outshot the Lions 6-3 in the opening 45 minutes of play.
Despite several changes in the second half by the Lions created by Carla Humera, Barton netted their second goal of the contest in the 83rd minute. Jenessa Gray won a foot race to the loose ball and put the Bulldogs up two with her first of the season, shooting low inside the far post.
Gray led Barton with three shots while Humera led all players with four. Taylor Primack made three saves for the shutout win. Camryn Miller stopped five shots on the afternoon.
Mars Hill returns to action on Saturday, September 14 when they open South Atlantic Conference play on the road at Newberry. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
