JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Mars Hill (1-6-1, 0-3-1 SAC) put up a resilient fight but came up short in a 2-0 loss to Carson-Newman (5-2-2, 2-1-2 SAC) on Saturday afternoon.
The Lions' defense stood strong throughout much of the match, with goalkeeper Camryn Miller making several crucial saves in the first half to keep the game scoreless until the 44th minute when Carson-Newman broke through with a goal from Anita Arnadottir.
In the second half, Mars Hill continued to battle, but Carson-Newman extended their lead in the 54th minute with a goal from Savannah Fields, assisted by Karli Pettitt. Mars Hill pressed forward with chances from Carla Humera and Samantha Swinson, but Carson-Newman's goalkeeper Berna Kabakci managed to keep the Lions off the board.
Miller and fellow goalkeeper Hanna Johnson combined for four saves.
Mars Hill will now shift focus to their upcoming home match against Lenoir-Rhyne on Wednesday, October 16. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. inside Meares Stadium.
