Lions felled by North Georgia to open weekend series

DAHLONEGA, Ga. - The Mars Hill baseball team (0-2) was defeated by North Georgia (1-0) by a score of 7-0 Friday afternoon on the road.
The Nighthawks led 2-0 entering the bottom of the sixth before tacking on three more runs, highlighted by Andrew Shadburn's RBI double. Andrews Opata and Jace Bowen added a pair of RBI singles.
North Georgia added two more runs in the eighth off of a Nik Levensteins' RBI single and a Mars Hill wild pitch.
Mars Hill was held to just three hits in the contest, coming off the bats of Dawson Connell, Trey Putnam, and Chris Bleeker.
Wes Lott threw six scoreless innings, allowing two hits while striking out four for the win. Brian Smart allowed three hits and one earned run in three innings pitched in the loss.
Game two of the weekend series is set for Saturday, February 4 with a 1 p.m. scheduled first pitch.
