Lions felled by Flying Fleet

DUE WEST, S.C. - The Mars Hill baseball team (12-35) was defeated by Erskine (26-16) by a score of 9-3 Wednesday afternoon.
Erskine used a five-run sixth inning to propel themselves to victory. Christian Rivera, who collected two RBI up to the frame, blasted a three-run home run to put Erskine up 7-2. Later in the stanza, Erskine drew a bases loaded walk to cap off the inning.
In the bottom of the seventh, Dale Francis, Jr. launched a solo home run to plate their ninth run of the contest. In the top of the ninth, an Erskine error allowed Terick Bumgarner to score.
Rivera opened the scoring with a RBI double in the bottom of the first. Mars Hill answered in the top of the third with a RBI single off the bat of Alex Naran, scoring Bumgarner.
After the Flying Fleet struck twice in the bottom of the fourth to go up 3-1, Mars Hill pulled within one after an error allowed Naran to score.
Rivera led all players with three hits and five RBI while Naran led the Lions with two hits.
Josh Collett struck out 14 in the complete game win, allowing one earned run on just four hits.
Mars Hill hosts Shorter on Friday, April 21 to open their final weekend series of the season. First pitch at Henderson Field is set for 3 p.m.
