Lions downed in series finale against Catawba
The Mars Hill baseball team (2-10) was defeated by Catawba (6-4) by a score of 5-2 in the third game of their weekend series Sunday afternoon.
SALISBURY, N.C. - The Mars Hill baseball team (2-10) was defeated by Catawba (6-4) by a score of 5-2 in the third game of their weekend series Sunday afternoon.
The Indians opened the scoring in the first as Carson Yates drove home Dylan Driver with a RBI single. Later in the frame, a Mars Hill wild pitch allowed the second Catawba run to cross home.
Following scoreless second and third innings, the Indians added three more runs in the fourth, highlighted by Logan Rogers' two-run single.
Mars Hill broke the shutout bid in the top of the ninth, plating two runs off of Trey Putnam's single to center.
Yates led all players with three hits on the day while Rogers and Putnam led their respective teams with two RBI. Putnam also led the Lions with two hits.
Mason Gwyn earned the win, striking out six and allowing two hits in six innings thrown.
The Lions return to the diamond on Tuesday, February 21 when they face Belmont Abbey on the road. First pitch is set for 4 p.m.
