Lions downed by No. 25 Young Harris
The Mars Hill baseball team (11-30) was defeated by No. 25 Young Harris (29-11) by a score of 13-7 Tuesday afternoon on the road.
YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. - The Mars Hill baseball team (11-30) was defeated by No. 25 Young Harris (29-11) by a score of 13-7 Tuesday afternoon on the road.
Young Harris put up four runs in the bottom of the first, highlighted by Rome Wallace's two-run double to left center. In the top of the second, Mars Hill rallied to cut the deficit down to one, scoring three. Both Trevor Bailey and Chapel Matson drew bases loaded walks while Donald Gorgei recorded an infield single that plated Silas Isenhour.
In the bottom of the fourth, the Mountain Lions extended their lead to five, scoring four runs. A trio of RBI singles helped their cause along with a Mars Hill error that allowed a run to score. Mars Hill chipped into the lead, scoring two runs while Matson earned his second RBI of the contest with a single to left, allowing Alex Naran to cross home.
Young Harris scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth, all with the bases loaded. The Mountain Lions drew one walk and were hit by a pitch on four separate occasions.
Capping off the scoring, Matson and Jordan Lathe recorded RBI singles in the top of the eighth, pulling within six runs.
Drew Bray led all players with three hits while five Mountain Lions posted two RBI apiece. Matson led the Lions with three RBI while he, Isenhour, Gorgei, and Dawson Connell notched two hits apiece for the Lions.
Mars Hill returns to South Atlantic Conference play in a pivotal series beginning Friday, April 14 versus Anderson. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
