ANDERSON, S.C. - The Mars Hill baseball team (11-32, 8-14 SAC) was swept on Saturday by Anderson (21-22, 9-10 SAC) by scores of 4-2 and 12-4, respectively.
GAME ONE: AU 4, MHU 2
Anderson plated two in the bottom of the eighth to escape game one with a 4-2 win.
Tied at two entering the bottom of the frame, Gray Wells' double down the left field line cleared the bases, scoring the game-winning runs.
Mars Hill led 1-0 after two as Silas Isenhour scored off of an Anderson throwing error. In the bottom of the sixth, a Trojans' RBI groundout tied the game at one. They took the lead in the seventh with a solo home run from JC LeGrand.
The Lions tied the game in the top of the eighth with a Chad Sikes single that allowed Dawson Connell to score.
Isenhour led all players with three hits in the game. Wells led all players with two RBI. Jackson Herring picked up the win, throwing 2.2 innings, striking out three. Nick Miller was credited with the save.
GAME TWO: AU 12, MHU 4
The Trojans used a 10-run sixth inning to complete the comeback and earn the sweep of the day.
Trailing 4-2 entering the bottom of the frame, Anderson's offense put up 10 runs, highlighted by a three-run triple from Kyle Andress and a three-run double from JC LeGrand.
Chapel Matson opened the scoring for the Lions in the top of the first with a two-run home run. In the top of the second, Trevor Bailey extended the Lions' lead to three with a RBI double that scored Chad Sikes. Luke Hayes put the Lions up by four with a RBI single in the top of the third that scored Zach Weaver.
In the bottom of the fourth, Anderson cut the Mars Hill lead in half. Anthony Pandolfi drew a bases loaded walk while later in the inning, Brayden Owens singled up the middle, scoring Justin Fox.
Fox and Carlos Hernandez led the Trojans with two hits while LeGrand and Andress led all players with three RBI apiece. Matson and Hayes led the Lions with two hits aside while Matson led the team with two RBI.
The teams close out the series on Sunday, April 16 with first pitch scheduled for 2 p.m.
