Mars Hill splits with Emory & Henry

MARS HILL, N.C. – The Mars Hill baseball team (12-29, 9-12 SAC) split their Monday South Atlantic Conference series with Emory & Henry (10-29, 3-14 SAC), taking game one by a score of 20-12, but dropping game two by a score of 6-2.
GAME ONE: MHU 20, E&H 12
The Lions' offense put up a season-high 20 runs in their game one victory over Emory & Henry.
Mars Hill put up four runs in the first with Jordan Lathe's two-run double followed up by a two-run home run off the bat of Dawson Connell. The Lions tacked on three more runs in the second, highlighted by Connell's two-run single through the left side of the infield.
The Lions put up four more in the third with RBI singles off the bats of Connell and Silas Isenhour, building the lead to 11-1 after three.
After the Wasps put up two runs in the fourth and fifth, the Lions responded with four runs in the fifth, highlighted by Luke Hayes' two-run double to right center field. In the sixth, Lathe picked up his sixth RBI of the game with a two-run double to left center.
Emory & Henry plated five in the top of the ninth, pulling within eight, highlighted by Wayne Mize's three-run double, collecting his sixth RBI of the day.
Connell led all players with four hits and six RBI. Hayes added three hits and three RBI while Chapel Matson scored a game-high five runs.
Brian Smart was credited with the win, allowing two hits and three runs while striking out three in two innings thrown. Dustin Revis started the contest, throwing four innings and allowing two runs on four hits while striking out a game-high four batters.
GAME TWO: E&H 6, MHU 2
The Wasps hit three home runs in their game two victory, earning the split.
Jermie Greene, Jr. opened the scoring in the top of the second with a two-run home run. After a scoreless inning and following a solo home run from Matthew Long, Greene, Jr. hit his second of the day, a solo shot over the left field fence.
Emory & Henry tacked on runs in both the sixth and seventh, a pair of RBI singles off the bats of Garrison Bullock and Cole Cunningham to extend the lead to six entering the bottom of the frame.
Tyler Sellers broke the shutout bid with a RBI single up the middle, scoring Chapel Matson. With the bases loaded, Luke Hayes was hit by an errant pitch, scoring Jordan Lathe for the Lions' second run of the frame. However, the Wasps were able to secure the final two outs of the contest with the bases loaded.
Greene, Jr. went 3-for-4 from the plate with two home runs and a game-high three RBI. Long went 3-for-3 in the game. Sellers and Zach Weaver recorded the lone Lions' hits of game two.
Bryson Wagner threw 6.1 innings, striking out five and allowing both hits.
Mars Hill takes to the road on Tuesday, April 11 when they face Young Harris. First pitch is set for 5 p.m.
