
Mars Hill felled by No. 14 Coker in CC Semifinals
BRISTOL, Tenn. - The Mars Hill acrobatics & tumbling team (8-4) was defeated in the Conference Carolinas Championships semifinals by No. 14 Coker (8-1) by a score of 232.180-219.640 Saturday afternoon.
The Cobras jumped out to over a three-point lead after the compulsory event, capitalizing in the acro heat.
Mars Hill responded in the acro event, erasing two points, by scoring two 8.825s in the first and third heat.
Coker, in the pyramid event, posted all 9.2 scores or higher. However, Mars Hill scored the highest heat in the first half, the open heat in the pyramid with a 9.8.
The Lions entered the half trailing 85.350-82.975.
While claiming the toss event by nearly a point (26.80-25.825), Mars Hill could not roll their momentum into the tumbling event. Coker outscored the Lions 48.175-45.475, building their lead heading into the team event.
Capping off the win, Coker scored a 72.830 in the team event, scoring over eight points higher than Mars Hill.
The Lions wrap up their most successful season in program history, falling in the semifinals of their first-ever postseason appearance. On Friday, prior to competing, head Coach Olivia Kincaid was named Conference Carolinas Acrobatics & Tumbling Coach of the Year, while Zoey Franklin was named a First Team All-Conference selection.
