
Lions advance to Conference Carolinas Semifinals
Mars Hill scores season-high in first-ever Conference Carolinas Championships appearance, advances to semifinals.
MARS HILL, N.C. - The No. 3 seed Mars Hill acrobatics & tumbling team (8-3) defeated the No. 6 seed Converse Valkyries (4-6) by a score of 248.765-245.815 Tuesday evening.
The meet marked the first-time in program history that the Lions appeared in the Conference Carolinas Championships.
Mars Hill found themselves down 35.60-35.15 after the Compulsory Event, despite scoring the two highest scores of the event in the Pyramid Heat (9.65) and the Toss Heat (9.70).
A strong performance in the Acro Event saw the Lions score 9.10 or higher in all three events, boasting a two-point advantage in the event and taking the lead.
Converse responded by claiming the Pyramid Heat, highlighted by their Open Heat score of 9.65. They took the event by a single point, 28.15-27.15, trailing by just half a point entering the half.
A consistent Lions' team took the Toss Event by just .25 of a point. In the Tumbling Event, stand out individual passes from Nasiri Mond, Arwen Mamer, and Katelynn Huffman pushed the Lions to the event win, taking the event 51.125-50.125.
The tightly contested meet boiled down to the team event, where the Lions outscored Converse 80.49-79.34, earning their first-ever postseason win.
Mars Hill advances to the Conference Carolinas Semifinals, which will be held in Bristol, Tennessee on Saturday, April 5. They will take on the No. 2 seed Coker Cobras at 3 p.m.
