Mars Hill places six on All-SAC First Team, Rankin named Defensive Freshman of the Year
The Mars Hill football team placed six members on the All-South Atlantic Conference First Team, as released by the league Thursday.
ROCK HILL, S.C. - The Mars Hill football team placed six members on the All-South Atlantic Conference First Team, as released by the league Thursday.
On the offensive side, Leondre Andreas, CJ Thompson, and Ty Snelson were named to the first team. Justin Bullock was an All-SAC Second Team selection.
Thompson was second in the SAC with 69.8 yards receiving per game and 768 yards receiving, and third with seven touchdown receptions.
Snelson led the SAC in touchdown receptions with nine and was ninth in the conference in yards per game with 49.5.
On the defensive side, Tristan Rankin, Dexter Fitzpatrick, and Landon Honeycutt were first team selections.
The defensive back hauled in eight interceptions and returned two for touchdowns. He totaled 40 tackles, 10 pass breakups, and three tackles for loss. He was named the statistical champion in interceptions per game (0.80).
Rankin was also named the Defensive Freshman of the Year.
Fitzpatrick led the SAC in sacks per game (0.90) and led the league with nine sacks on the year and 12 tackles for loss. He placed fourth in the conference in total tackles with 74.
Honeycutt led the SAC in total tackles with 105, nine more than the next closest player. He recorded 5.5 sacks, 9.5 tackles for loss, recovered two fumbles, and pulled down one interception.
Matt McAdoo was the statistical champion in punt return average with 11.8 yards per game.
Mars Hill won the statistical championship in rush defense, allowing only 70.4 yards per game.
