Women's Soccer Drops Heartbreaker to Lees-McRae

BANNER ELK, N.C.- Sarah Mahar's second goal of the season in the 87th minute boosted Lees-McRae to a 1-0 win over Mars Hill Monday night at Tate Field. Mars Hill is 0-9 on the season while Lees McRae is 2-4-1.
Mahar found the back of the net after she finished a pass from Erica Allen. Lees-McRae outshot Mars Hill 14-9 and held a 5-1 edge in corner kicks. Hannah Russell led the Lions with three shots, Megan Stabile and Breona Tate each had two shots. Aerial Ellis had one of the best chances of the match for the Lions in the 12th minute, but her knuckling shot from 12 yards out was snared by Lees-McRae goalkeeper Kaitlyn Briggs.
Briggs faced four shots and made four saves for her third victory of the season. Maslyn Greene saw five shots and made four saves.
Mars Hill returns to action on Saturday at Wingate at 5 p.m.
