Women's Soccer Loses to Queens on a Penalty Kick

MARS HILL, N.C. – The Lions lost on a penalty kick to Queens University in South Atlantic women's soccer action, 2-1 Saturday afternoon at the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium. Mars Hill fell to 0-13-1 overall and 0-8 in the SAC. Queens took their season mark to 6-6-2 overall and 4-2-2 in the conference.
A little over six minutes into the match (6:46) Rachel Blong scored from 20 yards out off a pass from Jordan Allen to put the Lions ahead 1-0. That was all the scoring the first period would see.
Ashley Osiecki tied the match at the 70:56 mark when she scored on a through ball from Mary Stringini. With 2:55 left in regulation, Ashley Osiecki was fouled in the box and beat the Lions' keeper on a penalty kick to lift the Royals to victory.
Queens outshout the Lions, 17-3. Queens had six corner kicks while the Lions were called offsides once. Tori Stajduhar played the entire contest in goal for Mars Hill and made five saves. Emily Mager also played the full 90 minutes in the net for Queens.
Mars Hill will play at SAC rival Carson-Newman on Wednesday, October 22. Match time is set for a 5 p.m. start.
