Women's Soccer Loses to Converse

MARS HILL, N.C. – Women's soccer fell to Converse 3-1 Wednesday night in the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium. The Lions fell to 0-3 on the year while Converse evened their record at 1-1.
Mars Hill's Catherine Watkins-Banks scored the first goal of the contest at the 23:40 mark. She sent the ball to the back of the net after it was deflected off several players on a corner kick sent in by Lindsey Ingwersen. MHU took the 1-0 advantage into the break.
Nicole Doolittle tied the match at 1-all in the 55th minute off a rebound. The goal was assisted by Darby Boyd. Alexandra Marquez scored what would later prove to be the match winner at the 56:50 mark. The goal was unassisted. Converse's Natalie Johnson missed a penalty kick in the 65th minute before Georgia Jones scored an insurance goal at the 69:56 mark, also off a rebound to extend Converse's lead to 3-1. The ball was sent in by Darby Boyd.
Converse out shot the Lions, 22-8. Converse had five corner kicks as opposed to MHU with two. Converse was called offsides three times. Tori Stajduhar played all 90 minutes in goal for MHU and made nine saves. Joscelyn Wallace also played the entire match in the net for Converse and made two saves.
Mars Hill will open South Atlantic Conference action on Friday night hosting Newberry. Match time is set for a 5 p.m. start.
