Women's Soccer Falls at Shorter in Overtime
Mars Hill’s women’s soccer team lost to Shorter University 3-2 in overtime Saturday afternoon.

ROME, Ga. – Mars Hill's women's soccer team lost to Shorter University 3-2 in overtime Saturday afternoon at Ben Brady Field The Lions fell to 0-2 on the year while Shorter improved to 1-1 overall.
Tabea Kirchner scored on a breakaway at the 94:40 mark of the first overtime period to lift the Hawks to victory.
Amber Miller put the Hawks up 1-0 on a penalty kick just over two minutes into the match. Breona Tate tied the contest for the Lions in the 13th minute when she scored by chipping the ball over the Hawks' keeper. Page Thompson assisted the score for the Lions. Corrie Thomas gave Shorter a 2-1 advantage at the 41:48 mark when she found the back net from about 20 yards out. The teams carried that score into the locker room at the break.
Hannah Russell knotted the match at 2-all in the 63rd minute when she scored on a breakaway pass from Kanani Thomas. Neither team could manage a goal for the remainder of regulation.
Shorter outshot the Lions, 19-7. Shorter enjoyed 11 corner kicks. Mars Hill did not have a single corner kick in the contest. Maslyn Greene played all 94:40 in goal for MHU and made seven saves. Alden Powell also played the entire match in the net for the Hawks and made four saves.
Mars Hill will play at Converse on September 9. Match time is set for a 6 p.m. start.
