MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill women's soccer team used a pair of second half goals to claim a 2-0 victory over Brevard on Friday afternoon at Meares Stadium and Ammons Family Athletic Center. Mars Hill improves to 1-7 overall and 1-3 in South Atlantic Conference matches while Brevard drops to 2-4 and 1-2.
After a scoreless first half that featured 25 shots, the Lions got on the scoreboard in the 62nd minute as Jordan Allen finished a Hannah Russell cross for her first goal of the season. In the 76th minute, Breona Tate scored her team-leading sixth goal of the season on a breakaway to give the Lions a 2-0 advantage.
Brevard outshot Mars Hill 26-16 while the Lions enjoyed a 4-3 advantage on corner kicks. Katlin Burns, Anita Maryskova and Sarah Fonger each took five shots for Brevard while Tate led the Lions with four shots.
Maslyn Greene earned the win while making 16 saves. Jocelyn Springer made six saves for the Tornados.
Mars Hill welcomes Southern Wesleyan on Wednesday for a 6:30 p.m. non-conference match.
