MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill women's soccer team (2-13-1, 0-10 SAC) was defeated by a score of 1-0 against Newberry (7-9, 5-5 SAC) Saturday afternoon inside Meares Stadium.
Newberry's Vanessa Baird scored the lone goal of the game just 2:11 into the contest. Sierra Chavez picked up the assist.
Despite being outshot 12-5 in the first half, the Lions had the better quality scoring opportunities with shots from Sanne Martinsen, Bailey Whitehead-Price and Isabella Busenbark narrowly missing the mark.
Martinsen and Jaidyn Jacobs along with Jacqueline Aldrete led their respective teams with five shots apiece.
Prior to the start of the contest, Mars Hill seniors Kiana Tuckett, Marin Sebestyen, and Sanne Martinsen were honored as part of the Senior Day ceremonies.
The Lions close out their 2021 season versus Wingate on Wednesday, November 3. Kickoff is slated for 5 p.m.
