Martinsen scores in third straight, Lions fall to LMU

MARS HILL, N.C. – The Mars Hill women's soccer team (2-6-1, 0-4 SAC) fell by a score of 2-1 against Lincoln Memorial (6-0-1, 4-0 SAC) record Wednesday night inside Meares Stadium.
The Lions opened the scoring just 2:26 into the second half as Sanne Martinsen continued her goal scoring streak, netting her sixth of the season and fourth in the past three games. On a free kick from around 30 yards out, Martinsen blew the ball past the Railsplitters' goalkeeper inside the far post.
In the 67th minute, Rachel Taylor knotted the game at one with her eighth of the season, tapping in a volley from Kyara Vanheuverswijn. Less than seven minutes later, Vanheuverswijn's shot ricocheted off the right post and found its way on the foot of Jessica Cravero who put it home for her sixth goal of the season, first game-winner of the campaign.
In the first half, Mars Hill was outshot 7-3, but had two opportunities on net, both saved by Benta Latenstein. Martinsen had a one-on-one chance that was saved by her right arm and late in the first half, Baylee Farr launched a shot from around 40 yards out that had to be punched above the crossbar to preserve the scoreless half.
Camryn Miller made a clutch save on Graciela Palencia, knocking away the low shot aimed for the far post. Miller also came out and challenged Taylor on a chance late in the half, disrupting her shot and holding the game scoreless.
Cravero led all players with nine shot attempts, two on net. Taylor added seven attempts. Martinsen led the Lions with three shot attempts, two on target.
Isabelle Zukaitis picked up her second win of the season, making one save. Miller made another nine saves in the loss.
The Lions return to the pitch on Saturday, October 2 when they face Limestone. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m.
