Lions open home slate versus Young Harris

MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill men's basketball team (1-5) fell to Young Harris (3-3) by a score of 66-55 Saturday afternoon in their 2023-24 home opener.
The first half saw Mars Hill go down 16-2 early in the half, but the Lions roared back in the latter half of the frame, holding the lead until the final seconds where a turnaround jumper from Kolbe Ashe tied the game at 30 before the buzzer sounded.
Ashe led Young Harris with seven points while Cole Deptula added six points. Xavier Meekins led all players with eight points followed by seven from Kadyn Dawkins. Rajuan Conner led the Lions with six rebounds and added six points.
Young Harris hit 58 percent of their shots in the second half, including going 6-of-11 from beyond the arc. Deptula led all players with 18 second half points. Conner led the Lions with seven points and eight rebounds, completing his double-double. Kendall Davis added five points for the Lions.
Deptula led all players with 24 points and led Young Harris with six rebounds. Morgan Rashed added 13 points.
Conner led the Lions with 13 points and all players with 14 rebounds. Meekins ended the day with 11 points while the duo of Dawkins and Davis added nine apiece.
The Lions return to action on Saturday, December 9 when they open up South Atlantic Conference play versus Catawba on the road. Tipoff is set for 4 p.m.
