MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill men's basketball team (2-17, 1-11 SAC) was defeated by UVA Wise (9-12, 5-8 SAC) by a score of 77-69 Saturday afternoon at home.
The Cavalier hit 54 percent of their shots in the first half, carrying a 41-29 advantage into the half. They hit seven threes as Carmelo Pacheco was responsible for four of them, leading all players with 12 points.
London Maiden led the Lions with nine points and seven rebounds in the first half followed by eight points from Kadyn Dawkins.
Mars Hill outscored the Cavaliers 40-36 in the second half with a balanced scoring attack. Derrick Molden, Jr. led the team with seven points while Dawkins and Caleb Mauldin each added six. Marcus Rodgers and Kendall Davis netted five apiece.
Zy'Ever Wingfield led all players with 17 points while Pacheco ended the night with 15.
Dawkins led the Lions with 14 points. Maiden ended the night with 11 points and 10 rebounds for the double-double.
The Lions wrap up their three-game homestand on Wednesday, February 7 when they take on Carson-Newman. Tipoff inside Chambers Gymnasium is set for 7:30 p.m.
