Lacrosse Loses to Lake Erie
MARS HILL, N.C. - The Lions' lacrosse team lost to Lake Erie College, 18-3 Friday afternoon in the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium. Mars Hill fell to 4-2 on the season while the Storm improved to 2-0 on the year.
Zach Tomkinson, Kile Garrett and Jimmy McBride scored the Lions' goals. Anthony Malcolm and Dan Applebaum recorded an assist apiece in the contest. Patrick McMahon played all 60 minutes in goal for MHC and made 19 saves.
Trevor Tarte led the Storm with seven goals and one assist. Keegan Bal had three goals and two assists. Tom Lipomi played 51:54 in goal for Lake Erie and made seven saves. Alexander Wisner played the final 8:06 in goal for the Storm and made one stop.
Lake Erie jumped out to a 6-0 lead after the first quarter. The Storm added two more goals before the Lions got on the board with 12:48 left in the first half after Tomkinson found the net. Lake Eire led at the break, 11-1.
Lake Erie took a 16-1 lead after three periods of play. The teams traded goals in the fourth frame to make the final tally, 18-3. McBride and Garrett recorded their goals at the 8:06 mark and the 0:40 mark.
Lake Erie outshot the Lions, 47-16. MHC won the ground ball battle, 31-25. Lake Erie won 13-23 face-offs. The Storm was 2-6 on extra-man opportunities while Mars Hill was 1-4.
MHC will play at Shorter on March 13. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
