Gillie nets 17 on road versus Mountain Lions

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. - The Mars Hill women's basketball team (2-2) fell to Young Harris (2-0) by a score of 75-68 Tuesday evening.
Young Harris scored 17 in the first 10 minutes of play, carrying an eight-point advantage into the second. The Mountain Lions shot just over 47 percent from the floor with a balanced scoring attack led by Mackenzie Johnson's six points. Maddie Gillie led Mars Hill with four.
Mars Hill turned the tables in the second, outscoring Young Harris 21-19, entering the half trailing by six. Gillie led all players with 11 points in the frame followed by five apiece from Janette Hanni and Naja Ngongba.
The Lions carried over their momentum, outscoring the Mountain Lions 24-20 in the third, pulling within two entering the final quarter. Jo Snow led the offense with nine points while Hanni added seven. Mars Hill shot a game-high 59 percent from the floor in the third, hitting 10-of-17 shots.
Despite a 27 percent shooting percentage in the fourth, Young Harris was able to hold off Mars Hill in the final 10 minutes of play, relying on 13 points off of free throws. JaMari Frederick led all players with eight points in the quarter.
Young Harris shot 42 percent from the floor to the Lions' 40 and converted on 17-of-23 free throws. Trinity Edwards led them with 18 points while Johnson scored 16 points and pulled down a game-high 22 rebounds for the double-double.
Gillie led the Lions with 17 points, adding six rebounds and four assists. Snow and Hanni netted 14 apiece while Snow led the Lions with nine rebounds.
Mars Hill returns to action on Wednesday, November 30 when they take on Lincoln Memorial on the road. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
