Mars Hill downed by Mount Olive in non-conference play

MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. - The Mars Hill women's basketball team (3-4) fell to Mount Olive (4-5) by a score of 67-50 Tuesday afternoon.
The Trojans were led by Laila Harris' six points in the first quarter, leading the Lions 19-12 after the first 10 minutes of play. Janette Hanni led Mars Hill with six points followed by four from Naja Ngongba's four.
Jo Snow scored 12 of Mars Hill's 19 second quarter points, going four-of-six from the floor with all four makes being three-pointers. Makayla Kimble led Mount Olive with eight points, going three-of-four from the floor. The Trojans shot 50 percent in the quarter, heading into the half with a 40-31 lead.
In the third quarter, Mount Olive outscored the Lions 19-6, shooting 40 percent. Reagan Hune netted nine in the frame while Ngongba scored five of Mars Hill's six points.
The Lions held Mount Olive to just eight points in the fourth. Snow led the team with five points followed by three apiece from Hannah Barr and Maddie Gillie.
Harris led the Trojans with 13 points followed by 12 from Kimble and 11 from Hune. Kimble led the team with eight rebounds and five assists.
Snow led all players with 17 points while Hanni and Ngongba each added 11 on the day. Ngongba collected the double-double, snatching a game-high 13 rebounds. Gillie added six points and 12 rebounds.
The Lions return to South Atlantic Conference action on Saturday, December 10 when they host Tusculum inside Chambers Gymnasium. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m.
