Mars Hill felled by Wingate
The Mars Hill women's basketball team (4-14, 0-10 SAC) was defeated by Wingate (14-6, 7-4 SAC) by a score of 87-50 Saturday afternoon on the road in South Atlantic Conference action.

The Bulldogs doubled up the Lions, 22-11, in the first quarter, shooting over 42 percent from the floor. Bryanna Troutman, Emily Hege, and Jaia Wilson each posted five points in the frame and Wingate outrebounded Mars Hill 17-2 with Troutman pulling down five.
Their momentum rolled through the second stanza as Wingate put up 25 points and held Mars Hill to just seven. Hege went a perfect 7-for-7 from the floor, netting 15 points. Maddie Gillie led the Lions with five.
Naja Ngongba led all players with eight points in the third while Troutman led the Bulldogs with seven in the lowest scoring quarter of the contest.
In the fourth, the Bulldogs shot over 53 percent from the floor and were led by AJ Davis' eight points. The trio of Ngongba, Gillie, and Jo Snow each posted four points in the final 10 minutes of play.
Hege led all players with 22 points, going 9-of-11 from the floor. Troutman added 18 and pulled down 13 rebounds for the lone double-double of the contest.
Gillie led Mars Hill with 17 points and six rebounds while Ngongba ended the contest with 15 points and six rebounds. Janette Hanni led the Lions with three assists.
Mars Hill travels on Wednesday, February 1 when they take on UVA Wise. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
