Mars Hill closes out season on Senior Day versus Anderson
The Mars Hill women’s basketball team (7-19, 3-15 SAC) was defeated by Anderson (16-12, 10-8 SAC) by a score of 92-75 in the 2022-23 season finale.
MARS HILL, N.C. – The Mars Hill women's basketball team (7-19, 3-15 SAC) was defeated by Anderson (16-12, 10-8 SAC) by a score of 92-75 in the 2022-23 season finale.
In the first quarter, the Trojans led 20-17 with Britney Bailey's seven points leading the way. Jannette Hanni led Mars Hill with seven followed by four from Hannah Barr. The Trojans outrebounded the Lions 16-14 in the first, pulling down nine offensive rebounds.
Both teams shot over 50 percent in the second frame with the Lions converting on 60 percent of their shots. Hanni led the Lions with six points in the frame while Anderson's Diamond McDowell netted six. The Trojans pulled down 10 rebounds in the second, seven being offensive boards.
The Lions shot 50 percent from the floor in the third, outscoring Anderson 20-19. Through three quarters of play, Hanni led all players with 19 points. McDowell netted 18 points and collected eight rebounds for the Trojans.
Anderson closed out the contest in the fourth, shooting 52 percent from the floor and outscoring the Lions 29-19.
McDowell led all players with 26 points and 16 rebounds for the double-double. Bailey added 13 points and 11 rebounds.
Hanni led the Lions with 23 points followed by 16 from Barr. Naja Ngongba collected the double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Prior to the contest, Hannah Barr was recognized and celebrated on Senior Day for her contributions to the Mars Hill women's basketball program.
