Gillie nets 23 on road versus C-N

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - The Mars Hill women's basketball team (3-6, 0-3 SAC) was defeated by Carson-Newman (6-5, 2-1 SAC) by a score of 103-70 Wednesday evening in South Atlantic Conference play.
Carson-Newman led by two, 20-18, entering the second quarter before breaking open the scoring. The Eagles outscored Mars Hill 29-8 in the second frame, leading the Lions 49-26 entering the half. Led by Skylar Boshears' 10 points, the Eagles shot 62 percent from the floor in the second.
The third quarter saw the teams combine for 61 points, the highest scoring 10 minutes of the night. Boshears scored 13 of Carson-Newman's 33 points in the frame. Maddie Gillie netted nine for the Lions followed by eight from Jo Snow. The Eagles shot 67 percent from the floor while the Lions shot a game-high 53 percent in the quarter.
Janette Hanni led the Lions in the fourth, scoring seven of the team's 16 points. Three Eagles scored four points apiece to close out the contest.
The duo of Gillie and Hanni led Mars Hill with five points apiece in the opening frame as the team shot over 41 percent in the first. The trio of Boshears, Braelyn Wykle, and Tori Rutherford netted four apiece for the Eagles.
Boshears led all players with 31 points, hitting 15-of-17 shot attempts. Wykle ended the night with 18 points, going 3-of-4 from beyond the arc.
Gillie led the Lions with 23 points followed by Hanni's 17. Both Snow and Naja Ngongba added 13 points aside.
The Lions return the floor on Sunday, December 18 at 2 p.m. when they take on Lees-McRae in non-conference action.
