Mars Hill falls to LMU in SAC opener

HARROGATE, Tenn. - The Mars Hill women's basketball team (2-3, 0-1 SAC) was defeated on the road by Lincoln Memorial (5-2, 1-0 SAC) by a score of 84-54 Wednesday evening.
The Railsplitters led by nine entering the half, but exploded offensively in the third quarter, outscoring the Lions 29-16. They shot 50 percent from the floor and hit three threes in the quarter as Lauren Flowers led the way with eight points followed by six apiece from Saquita Joyner and Alexa Smiddy.
Jo Snow led the Lions offensively, scoring 10 of the team's 16 points.
In the fourth quarter, Jordan Maney led LMU with six points as they padded their lead, scoring 20 points in the final 10 minutes of play. Snow led all players with eight. She scored 18 of her game-high 24 points in the second half.
A poor shooting first quarter for both squads saw Lincoln Memorial carry a 16-10 lead into the second as Smiddy led all players with five points. Naja Ngongba led the Lions with four off the bench.
The duo of Snow and Zanah Boyd led the Lions' offense in the second quarter with four points aside while Maddie Gillie pulled down three rebounds and hit her lone three-point attempt of the stanza.
Lincoln Memorial had five players score double-digits on the night as Smidy's 19 led the Railsplitters. Maney earned the double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds.
Snow led the Lions with 24 points and four assists. Ngongba added eight points and five rebounds while Boyd and Gillie ended the night with seven points apiece.
The Lions return to action on Friday, December 2 when they take on Johnson & Wales on the road. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
