Mars Hill opens weekend series on road versus Catawba

SALISBURY, N.C. - The Mars Hill baseball team (1-9) was defeated by Catawba (5-3) by a score of 10-2 Friday night on the road.
The Indians led 3-1 after the first, highlighted by Cameron Mills' RBI double down the right field line. In the third, Cooper Bryson extended the lead to four with a two-run single to center. The lead climbed to five in the bottom of the fourth with a RBI single off the bat of Carson Yates.
Trey Putnam plated Tyler Sellers in the top of the sixth to score the Lions' second run with a RBI single through the left side.
Catawba responded in the eighth, plating four more runs as Mills picked up his second and third RBI of the game with a double to right center.
Mills led all players with three RBI, going 3-for-3 in the contest. Bryson recorded two RBI in the game.
The quartet of Putnam, Jordan Lathe, Alex Naran, and Zach Weaver each collected two hits for the Lions.
Brian Smart was credited with the loss, allowing three runs on three hits in 1.1 innings thrown while striking out two. Austin Fine picked up his third win of the season, striking out four and allowing just one run on five hits in five innings pitched.
The Lions return to the diamond on Saturday, February 18 to continue the series. Game one of Saturday's doubleheader is set for a 1 p.m. first pitch. Game two is set for a 4 p.m. first pitch.
