JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - The Mars Hill baseball team (4-16, 2-4 SAC) was defeated by Carson-Newman (8-11, 2-1 SAC) by a score of 4-2 Sunday afternoon.
The Eagles used a four-run fourth inning to secure the series win. Opening the scoring was Mitchell Balint with a triple down the right field line, scoring James Denten. Balint later crossed home after Zach Boze's RBI double to left center field.
Following a Mars Hill error that allowed Boze to score, Ben Willcoxon drove in another run with a single to left field.
With the bases loaded in the top of the fifth, Chad Sikes' single up the middle scored Alex Naran to break the shutout bid. The Eagles were able to escape the inning, turning a double play.
In the top of the sixth, Mars Hill cut the Eagles' lead in half with a solo home run off the bat of Luke Hayes.
Boze and Naran led their respective teams with two hits apiece. Tyler Shaver was credited with the win, striking out three in 1.1 innings thrown. Hunter Harritan picked up his first save of the year.
Mars Hill returns home in non-conference play on Tuesday, March 7 when they host Erskine. First pitch at Henderson Field is set for 2 p.m.
