Lions score nine unanswered, take game one from Limestone

MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill baseball team (8-27, 5-11 SAC) defeated Limestone (11-21, 4-10 SAC) by a score of 11-2 Friday afternoon to kickoff their weekend series.
Tied at two entering the bottom of the sixth, Trevor Bailey's three-run opposite field home run put the Lions up for the second time of the afternoon. Mars Hill would not relinquish the lead, only adding to it in the bottom of the eighth.
Mars Hill scored six runs in the eighth, kicked off by Chapel Matson's two-run home run to left field. Later in the inning, a Limestone error allowed Jordan Lathe to score the Lions' eighth run of the contest. Following Dawson Connell's sacrifice fly that plated Zach Weaver, Bailey picked up his fifth RBI of the game with a two-run single to right, scoring Silas Isenhour and Luke Hayes.
Limestone opened the scoring in the top of the fourth as Dylan Shugan posted the first Saints' hit of the afternoon, a single to left that allowed Zach O'Malley to score. The Lions answered back in the bottom of the frame as Connell launched a two-run shot over the left field fence.
O'Malley, in the top of the sixth, tied the game at two with a RBI groundout that plated Davis Turner.
Bailey went 2-for-4 from the plate with a game-high five RBI. Connell followed with three RBI. Lathe led all players with three hits.
Dustin Revis earned the win, throwing 6.0 innings, allowing two runs on two hits while striking four.
The series continues on Saturday, April 1 with a doubleheader. Game one is set for a 12 p.m. first pitch at Henderson Field.
