Mars Hill falls to Newberry
The Mars Hill baseball team (5-20, 2-7 SAC) was swept Saturday by Newberry (18-4, 5-1 SAC), dropping game one by a score of 13-6 and game two by a score of 3-2.

NEWBERRY, S.C. - The Mars Hill baseball team (5-20, 2-7 SAC) was swept Saturday by Newberry (18-4, 5-1 SAC), dropping game one by a score of 13-6 and game two by a score of 3-2.
GAME ONE: NBY 13, MHU 6
Newberry struck early in the contest, leading them to the series win.
The Wolves scored three runs in both the first and second innings. A trio of RBI singles in the first put Newberry up 3-0 and in the second, following Jomar Lugo's RBI single, a Jacob LeBron put the Wolves up 6-0 with a two-run home run.
Newberry tacked on four more runs in the third, highlighted by LeBron's two-run triple.
Entering the top of the fifth, the Lions trailed 11-0. Mars Hill plated five in the inning, highlighted by Zach Weaver's two-run double that scored Jordan Lathe and Chapel Matson. Newberry responded in the bottom half of the frame with a sacrifice fly from Braylin Marine.
With the bases loaded in the top of the eighth, Weaver collected his third RBI of the contest after being hit by a pitch. Newberry added their 13th run of the contest in the bottom of the stanza with a RBI single off the bat of Trevor Testerman.
Four Wolves posted two hits apiece while LeBron led all players with four RBI. Matson and Lathe led all players with three hits aside while Weaver led Mars Hill with three RBI.
Bennett Roemer earned the win, allowing five runs on seven hits while striking out six.
GAME TWO: NBY 3, MHU 2
A ninth inning rally from the Lions fell just short in game three of the weekend series.
Trailing 3-0 entering the final frame, Jordan Lathe broke the no-hit bid with a solo home run down the left field line. Later in the inning, Dawson Connell's sacrifice fly scored Zach Weaver, pulling Mars Hill within one. Trevor Linaman was able to work his way out of the inning, picking up his second save of the year.
Braylin Marine opened the scoring in the bottom of the first with a RBI single up the middle. In the bottom of the third, Jacob LeBron plated Jomar Lugo with a RBI groundout. Marine collected his second RBI of the contest in the bottom of the fifth with a single to left, scoring Donovan Ford.
Marine led all players with two hits and two RBI. Lathe recorded the lone Mars Hill hit of the game.
Tyler Chinpire was credited with the win, allowing two runs on one hit while striking out five.
Mars Hill returns to the diamond on Tuesday, March 14 when they host Belmont Abbey inside Henderson Field. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
