Lions fall to Anderson in series finale

ANDERSON, S.C. - The Mars Hill baseball team (11-33, 8-16 SAC) was defeated by Anderson (22-22, 10-10 SAC) by a score of 15-3 Sunday to wrap up their weekend series.
After Carlos Hernandez' two-run single in the first put the Trojans up 2-0, they ballooned their lead to eight with a six-run third inning, highlighted by two-run singles off the bats of Justin Fox and Brayden Owens. Anderson tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the fourth, moving their lead into double-digits.
The Lions broke the shutout bid in the top of the sixth with a RBI single off the bat of Luke Hayes. In the bottom of the frame, Anderson plated five runs, including a bases clearing double for Braeden Harrison, picking up three RBI.
Mars Hill plated two in the top of the eighth as Dawson Connell drove home Zach Weaver for the Lions' second run of the game. Following an Anderson throwing error, Silas Isenhour advanced home for the third and final run of the game.
Three Trojans recorded two hits on the day, led by Hernandez who added a game-high four RBI. Connell and Hayes led the Lions with two hits and one RBI apiece.
Nathan Sanders earned the win, allowing just one run on four hits in 5.2 innings thrown.
Mars Hill returns home on Tuesday, April 18 when they host Emmanuel. First pitch at Henderson Field is set for 2 p.m.
