Mars Hill downed by Emmanuel
The Mars Hill baseball team (12-34) fell to Emmanuel (24-18) by a score of 15-7 Tuesday afternoon at home.

MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill baseball team (12-34) fell to Emmanuel (24-18) by a score of 15-7 Tuesday afternoon at home.
Mars Hill entered the bottom of the first down 6-0 before cutting the lead in half in the bottom of the frame, highlighted by Dawson Connell's two-run double. In the fourth, Connell picked up his third RBI of the game with a solo home run over the left field fence. Terick Bumgarner's RBI single later in the inning pulled Mars Hill within one.
Emmanuel responded in the top of the fifth, plating three runs. In the bottom of the fifth, Zach Weaver launched a solo shot down the left field line to bring Mars Hill back within three, trailing 9-6 entering the sixth.
After putting up a run off of a sacrifice fly in the top of the sixth, Emmanuel ballooned the lead to nine as they scored five in the seventh. Luke Hayes capped off the scoring on the afternoon with a RBI single that plated Weaver in the bottom of the ninth.
Weaver and Connell led all players with four hits while Connell led all players with three RBI.
Mars Hill returns to the diamond on Wednesday, April 19 when they face Erskine on the road. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
