Lacrosse Cruises Past Queens
CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The no. 11 Lions' lacrosse team remained undefeated with a 17-7 victory over Queens University of Charlotte Wednesday afternoon. Mars Hill is 7-0 on the year while the Royals fell to 3-1 on the season. MHC is off to their best start in school history.
T.J. Cowx led the Lions with five goals, one assist, one ground ball and one caused turnover. Taylor Thilo had three goals and four assists. He added a pair of caused turnovers. Cade Zulak also had three goals and four assists in the win. Dylan Price played the entire game in the net for MHC and made 17 saves.
Derek Young came off the bench to lead Queens with two goals. Andrew Hyland played all 60 minutes in the net for Queens and made eight saves.
Queens outshot the Lions, 36-32. The ground ball battle was tied at 33-all while MHC won 21-28 face-offs. Ryan Herrmann won 19-23 of those face-offs for the Lions. MHC was 5-7 on extra man opportunities while the Royals were 2-5 in their extra man chances.
After a close opening quarter where the Lions led by only a single goal (3-2), Cade Zulak and T.J. Cowx combined for five goals in the second frame to give the Lions a 8-5 lead heading into the locker room at the intermission.
The second half belonged to the Lions. MHC outscored the Royals 5-1 in the third stanza and 4-1 in the last quarter to leave Charlotte with a 17-7 victory.
Mars Hill will host Belmont Abbey College on Sunday, March 11. Game time is slated for 3 p.m.
