Lions Fall in Battle of Ranked Teams
GAFFNEY, S.C.-- The ninth-ranked Mars Hill lacrosse team was defeated by fifth-ranked Limestone, 15-5 in non-conference action Saturday afternoon. Mars Hill closed out the regular season 11-2 overall. Limestone improved to 11-1 overall with the victory.
Limestone used a six-goal second period to turn a 3-2 lead into a 9-2 advantage by halftime. The Saints outscored Mars Hill 10-1 in the middle two periods to key the victory. The Saints held a 23-10 advantage in shots on goal in the middle two periods, 46-33 overall. Limestone held a 47-27 advantage in ground balls on the afternoon.
Jackson Decker led Limestone with four goals scored and five ground balls. Riley Loewen added three goals, three assists, and two ground balls for the Saints.
T.J. Cowx scored two goals and dished out two assists to lead the Mars Hill attack. Taylor Thilo added three points on a goal and two assists. Ryan Herrmann and Dylan Price each had four ground balls for the Lions.
Mars Hill will be in action again in the Deep South Conference tournamnet. Dates and opponent for that contest will be determined with the conclusion of the regular season.
