Cowx Named DSC Offensive POTW
Wingate, N.C.----Mars Hill College senior attack T.J. Cowx has been named the Deep South Conference Offensive Player of the Week, league officials announced Monday. Florida Tech junior goalie Mason Cook (Hollywood, Md.) is the Defensive Player of the Week, while Tampa midfield M.J. Lorenzo (Tampa, Fla.) earns Freshman of the Week honors.
Cowx led the Lions to a key 16-10 victory over DSC opponent Catawba College. He piled up six goals and two assists on the day, while also collecting three ground balls. Cowx took 13 shots in the game, including nine shots on goal as Mars Hill improved to 10-1 overall and 5-1 in the conference.
Cook piled up 15 saves for the Panthers, leading Florida Tech to an 11-9 victory over Coker College. The win was the first road win in school history. Cook faced 37 shots on the afternoon, while helping the Panthers spoil five extra-man opportunities in the victory. Cook also collected a pair of ground balls on the day.
Lorenzo had a big week for the Spartans, notching six goals and
two assists to lead first-place Tampa to three victories. He
started his week with three goals and an assist in the 9-5 DSC win
over Saint Leo. Lorenzo followed with a goal and an assist in the
11-10 victory over Lenoir-Rhyne, adding a ground ball and forcing a
turnover. He capped his week with two goals in Tampa's 9-5 win over
MIT.
