Baseball Loses Season Opening Contests at WSSU
Mars Hill opened the 2015 campaign losing two games at Winston-Salem State University on Saturday at BB&T Ballpark.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Mars Hill opened the 2015 campaign losing two games at Winston-Salem State University on Saturday at BB&T Ballpark. It was the season opening contests for both institutions.
Game 1: WSSU 12, MHU 3
Dylan Powers led the Lions at the plate going 2-3 with a double and two walks. Evan Rogers was 1-3 with a run scored and a RBI. Caleb Edwards took the loss (0-1) for the Lions on the mound.
The Rams scored four runs in the second inning on three hits. They added a pair of runs in the fourth inning before MHU got on the board in the fifth frame scoring two runs. Rogers hit a sacrifice fly in the fifth inning to drive in Lance Edwards to trim the deficit to 6-3. WSSU answered scoring two runs in the bottom half of the inning to go ahead 8-3. After scoring a single run in the seventh inning, the Rams added three runs in their last at-bat on five hits to make the final tally 12-3 in favor of the home team.
Game 2: WSSU 6, MHU 5
Evan Rogers led the Lions in the nightcap going 3-5 with a triple and a run scored. Dylan Powers was 2-4 with a run scored and a RBI. Alec Bivens suffered the loss (0-1) on the mound pitching two innings in relief.
After the Rams scored a single run in the first inning, Christian Stampler hit a sacrifice fly to left field to plate Dylan Powers and tie the game. Mars Hill then took a 4-1 advantage in the top of the third inning on three hits and one Ram error to lead 4-1. The at-bat was highlighted by RBI singles from Powers and Tommy Scala.
Ricky Silvestri crossed the plate on a Ram error in the fifth frame to give the Lions a 5-1 lead. WSSU answered scoring three runs in the sixth inning and two runs in the seventh inning to defeat the Lions by one run (6-5).
Mars Hill will play at Southern Wesleyan on Wednesday, February 4. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
