Lions Knock Off Coker

ASHEVILLE, N.C.- Dalton Eisenbath's two-out single in the fifth inning plated what proved to be the winning run as Mars Hill defeated Coker 2-1 in a South Atlantic Conference baseball contest at Greenwood Field on Monday afternoon. The teams were originally scheduled to play a doubleheader but the second game was cancelled due to rain. Mars Hill improves to 18-20 and 7-16 in the SAC while Coker falls to 15-26 and 6-19.
Mars Hill got on the board in the fourth inning as Phillip Carroll laced a one out triple to right center field and scored on a Tommy Scala single through the left side. In the fifth, Evan Rogers reached on a fielder's choice and advanced to third thanks to a Rayshelon Carolina double before scoring on a single by Eisenbath.
In the Coker sixth, Will Winslow reached on a base hit with one out and advanced to second on a Tyler Osik base hit before scoring on a Joe Diaz single to cut the Lion lead to 2-1. Mars Hill had runners at second and third with one out following an error, walk and a balk before a strikeout and popout ended the inning.
Clint Allen reached on a one out single in the top of the seventh but was thrown out trying to steal second base. Michael Orlowski struck out to end the game.
Carroll went two-for-three with a single, triple and run scored. Eisenbath and Scala each went one-for-three with a single and RBI. Rogers was one-for-two with a single and run scored. Lance Edwards went one-for-three with a single.
Zac Brown earned his sixth win of the season, allowing one run on seven hits with two walks and three strikeouts in six innings. Kaleb McCurry earned his third save of the season as he allowed one hit and a strikeout in an inning of work. Will Sutton took the loss after allowing two runs on seven hits with three walks and two strikeouts in six innings.
Mars Hill returns to action on Friday, hosting Lenoir-Rhyne in a single game at 3 p.m.
