Several Lions Enjoy Successful Summer Seasons
The Mars Hill baseball team had 15 players in action in various collegiate leagues this summer, including three players that participated in the Coastal Plain League's Petit Cup Championship Series.
MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill baseball team had 15 players in action in various collegiate leagues this summer. Mars Hill had three players in the Petit Cup Championship Series with Alec Bivins and Dalton Eisenbath on the Western Division champion Gastonia Grizzlies and Evan Rogers on the Eastern Division and league champion Edenton Steamers. The Lions also had players in American Legion Baseball, Carolina Virginia Collegiate League, Great Lakes Collegiate League, Northwoods Collegiate League, Prospect League and South Florida Collegiate League.
Alec Bivins, Gastonia Grizzlies (Coastal Plain League)
Rising sophomore Alec Bivins is 2-1 with a 4.24 ERA in 40.1 innings while striking out 37 batters for the Coastal Plain league runner-up Gastonia Grizzlies. Bivins was the starter in game two of the Petit Cup Championship Series.
Zac Brown, Southern Ohio Copperheads (Great Lakes Collegiate League)
Rising sophomore Zac Brown pitched in three games and posted a 4.05 ERA in 13.1 innings of work.
Ray Carolina, Forest City Owls (Coastal Plain League)
Carolina, a rising senior, hit .247 with 46 hits, five doubles, 10 RBI and 51 total bases while playing in 54 of the Owls' 55 games in 2015. A CPL midseason All-Star, Carolina led the CPL with 48 walks.
Adam Daniel, Forest City Owls (Coastal Plain League)
Rising senior Adam Daniel made seven appearances on the mound for the Owls, striking out nine batters in eight innings.
Lance Edwards, Coral Springs Royals (South Florida Collegiate League)
A rising sophomore, Edwards batted .280 with 21 hits, a double and six RBI in 28 games.
Dalton Eisenbath, Gastonia Grizzlies (Coastal Plain League)
A rising senior, Dalton Eisenbath saw time at the plate and on the mound for the Grizzlies. Eisenbath batted .256 in 39 plate appearances with a pair of doubles and seven RBI. On the mound, he went 1-0 with a 3.38 ERA in 10.2 innings pitched.
Harrison Hollis, Kernersville Bulldogs (Carolina Virginia Collegiate League)
Hollis, a redshirt sophomore, batted .194 with 12 hits, a double, 10 RBI and 13 stolen bases in 39 games for the Kernersville Bulldogs.
Matt Honeycutt, South Rowan Post 3 (American Legion Baseball)
Redshirt freshman Matt Honeycutt played for South Rowan Post 3 in American Legion contests.
Kaleb McCurry, Battle Creek Bombers (Northwoods Collegiate League)
Rising sophomore Kaleb McCurry led the Bombers with 25 appearances as he went 2-1 with two saves while posting a 1.61 ERA in 39 innings pitched. McCurry struck out 40 batters and walked 12.
Patrick Riehl, Chillicothe Paints (Prospect Collegiate League)
Riehl, a redshirt junior, went 1-1 with 22 strikeouts in 17.2 innings for the Paints. He finished with a 1.52 ERA in 10 appearances.
Evan Rogers, Edenton Steamers (Coastal Plain League)
A rising senior, Rogers was named a CPL midseason All-Star for the second consecutive season. He tied for the league lead with 49 runs scored while batting .300 with 62 hits, 15 doubles, one triple, seven home runs and 34 RBI. During the final game of the Petit Cup Championship Series, Rogers finished a triple shy of the cycle as the Steamers earned a 10-4 victory over Gastonia to claim the Petit Cup.
Josh Sereno, Gaffney Post 109 Crusaders (American Legion Baseball)
Rising sophomore Josh Sereno played for Gaffney Post 109 Crusaders in American Legion contests.
Tyler Sides, Mooresville Spinners (Carolina Virginia Collegiate League)
Rising senior Tyler Sides went 3-2 with a 3.04 ERA in 11 games/nine states for the league runner-up Mooresville Spinners. Sides struck out a team-leading 62 batters in 53.1 innings which tied him for third in the league.
Christian Stampler, Coral Springs Royals (South Florida Collegiate League)
Rising sophomore Christian Stampler hit .169 with a double and stolen base in 59 plate appearances.
Fausto Turro, Carolina Pirates (Carolina Virginia Collegiate League)
Rising sophomore Fausto Turro went 1-2 with a 2.92 ERA in 15 appearances for the Pirates. Turro struck out 31 batters while holding opposing batters to a .223 batting average in 24.2 innings of work.
