Baseball Beats Brevard, 6-1
The Lions defeated Brevard 6-1 in non-conference baseball action Wednesday afternoon at Henderson Field.
MARS HILL, N.C. – The Lions defeated Brevard 6-1 in non-conference baseball action Wednesday afternoon at Henderson Field. Mars Hill improved to 14-16 overall while the Tornados fell to 16-20 on the season.
Evan Rogers led MHU at the plate going 2-5 with a pair of doubles and two runs scored. Lance Edwards also had two hits while Dalton Eisenbath was 1-3 with two RBI. Zac Brown threw 5.1 innings scattering four hits allowing just one run to pick up the win (4-3) on the mound for the Lions.
Joseph Mesi was 1-4 with a double and a RBI to pace the Tornados offensively. James Phillips suffered the loss (1-2) on the mound for Brevard.
The Lions scored four runs in the third inning on three hits and one Tornado error. Dalton Eisenbath singled to left field to drive in Rayshelon Carolina and Evan Rogers to account for the first two scores. Phillip Carroll then doubled to right field to score Dylan Powers and then Eisenbath later scored on a fielder's choice.
The Tornados got on the board in the fourth frame when Joseph Mesi doubled to left-center field to drive in Ryan Smith. Mars Hill extended their advantage to 6-1 in the bottom of the fourth inning when Carolina singled to right field to score Lance Edwards and then Powers hit a sacrifice fly to center field to plate Rogers. That would end the scoring in the contest.
Mars Hill will play at three-game South Atlantic Conference series at Lincoln Memorial this weekend. The teams will play a single game at 4 p.m. on Friday and then meet for a double-header on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m.
