Baseball Falls to Catawba in Series Finale
Mars Hill lost 7-1 to no. 12 Catawba in South Atlantic Conference baseball action Sunday afternoon at Greenwood Field.
ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Mars Hill lost 7-1 to no. 12 Catawba in South Atlantic Conference baseball action Sunday afternoon at Greenwood Field. The Lions fell to 17-20 overall and 6-16 in the league. The Indians improved to 33-9 on the year, 21-5 in the SAC.
Phillip Carroll was 1-1 with an RBI for Mars Hill. Dalton Eisenbath was 1-3 with a double. Hunter Boydston threw 7.1 innings allowing just four hits to suffer the loss (2-2) on the mound for Mars Hill.
T.J. Wharton was 1-4 with a grand slam homerun to pace the Indians offensively. Blake Houston and Nick Williams added two hits apiece in the win. Connor Johnson pitched 5.2 innings scattering three hits allowing no earned runs to obtain the win (5-0) on the hill for Catawba. He struck out seven batters.
Houston hit a solo homerun to right field in the fourth inning to put the first run on the board. Wharton's grand slam came in the sixth inning to give Catawba a 5-0 advantage.
The Indians scored single runs in the eighth and ninth inning before Mars Hill got on the board. Carroll singled through the right side in the bottom of the ninth to drive in Harrison Hollis who reached base on a lead-off single up the middle.
Mars Hill will host SAC for Coker on Monday for a double-header at Greenwood Field. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
