Baseball Falls at Brevard
The Lions lost 5-3 to SAC rival Brevard College in South Atlantic Conference baseball action Friday afternoon at Gil Coan Field.
BREVARD, N.C. – The Lions lost 5-3 to SAC rival Brevard College in South Atlantic Conference baseball action Friday afternoon at Gil Coan Field. Mars Hill fell to 2-9 overall and 0-7 in the SAC. The Tornados improved to 8-10 on the season, 4-8 in the league.
Evan Rogers led Mars Hill at the plate going 3-5. He was followed by Dalton Eisenbath who was 1-4 with an RBI. Caleb Edwards suffered the loss (0-3) for the Lions on the mound.
Pat Quinn led Brevard going 2-4 with a homerun, three RBI and a run scored. Ryan Smith and Brock Helton had three hits apiece in the contest. Hunter Donaldson picked up the win (2-1) throwing six innings scattering four hits and allowing just one earned run. Tyler Konzen recorded a save (1) pitching the last three innings. He allowed just two hits while striking out three batters.
Eisenbath singled up the middle in the Lions' first at-bat to drive in Rogers and give MHU a 1-0 lead. The Tornados answered scoring all five of their runs in the contest in the bottom half of the first inning on four hits. The at-bat was highlighted by a three-run homerun by Quinn.
The Lions cut the deficit to 5-3 in the third inning when Dylan Powers scored on a Brevard error and then Eisenbath crossed the plate on a failed pickoff attempt.
The teams will conclude the three-game series tomorrow with a double-header beginning at noon.
