Baseball Drops Double-Header to King
The Lions’ baseball team lost a double-header to King University Monday afternoon at Henderson Field.
MARS HILL, N.C. – The Lions' baseball team lost a double-header to King University Monday afternoon at Henderson Field. Mars Hill lost the first game 5-1 and then lost the nightcap, 3-2. The Lions fell to 4-12 on the season while the Tornados improved to 8-12 overall.
Game 1: King 5, MHU 1
Phillip Carroll led MHU at the plate going 2-3 while Dylan Powers went 1-3 with a double and a RBI. Zac Brown suffered the loss (1-3) for the Lions on the mound pitching 3.1 innings.
King scored three runs in the second inning on three hits and then added a single runs in the third and fourth innings to account for their scoring. Powers doubled to center field to drive in Rayshelon Carolina in the sixth inning to make the final scored 5-1 in favor of the visitors.
Game 2: King 3, MHU 2
Powers was 1-3 with a RBI in game two while Tommy Scala also went 1-3 with a solo homerun to pace the Lions offensively. Dalton Eisenbath took the loss (0-1) for Mars Hill on the mound pitching three innings.
King scored two runs in their first at-bat on two hits and two Lion miscues. The Tornados added a single run in the third inning to end their scoring for the day. Scala led the fourth inning off with a solo homerun to left-center field before Powers singled to left field in the fifth frame to plate Evan Rogers. That was all the scoring the Lions could muster as King held on for the 3-2 victory.
Mars Hill will host Limestone College on Wednesday, March 11. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
