Limestone Slips Past Lions, 13-11
Saints hold off late surge by Mars Hill
MARS HILL, N.C. - No. 2 Limestone held off a late offensive surge by the no. 7 Lions to leave the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium with a 13-11 victory in men's lacrosse action Saturday afternoon. The Saints improved to 5-0 while Mars Hill fell to 4-2 on the season.
Limestone jumped out to a 4-2 lead after the first quarter and then outscored the Lions 3-1 in the second period to take a 7-3 advantage into the locker room at the intermission. The Saints outshot MHC 23-13 in the first half.
After Limestone took an 11-5 lead going into the last quarter, Mars Hill outscored the Saints 6-2 to make the final tally 13-11 in favor of the visitors. The second half saw a very aggressive and productive Mars Hill offense as the Lions outshot the Saints 18-13 in the last half of play.
For the game, Limestone outshot the Lions, 36-31. Face-offs were even at 13 apiece. Neither team capitalized on extra man opportunities as MHC was 2-8 while Limestone was 2-7. MHC edged the Saints in ground balls, 31-30.
Six players scored two goals each for the Saints. Shayne Jackson led the Limestone offense with two goals and three assists. Steve Gartelman played all 60 minutes in goal for Limestone and made eight saves.
Tyler Farmer led MHC offensively with three goals and one assist. Jamie Raezer also scored three times while Eric Benesch added a pair of goals in the contest. Dylan Price also played the entire game in the net for MHC and made 10 saves.
Mars Hill will play at Rollins on March 16. Game time is set for
