Lacrosse Beats Queens on Senior Day
Woods notches 50th career victory
MARS HILL, N.C. - Tyler Farmer scored the game winning goal with 39 seconds left in regulation to propel the no. 12 Lions' lacrosse team over visiting no. 10 Queens University of Charlotte Saturday afternoon in the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium. The Lions celebrated senior day this afternoon and head coach Sean Woods notched his 50th victory with the win.
Prior to the game, Mars Hill recognized their senior players. This year's senior members are Eric Benesch, Calvin Brien, Phillip Burke, Mark Burnette, Tim Burns, Mike Eagan, Tyler Farmer, Jason Messineo and Adam Traynor.
Farmer led the Lions (10-3) with three goals on the day. He added a ground ball and a caused turnover. Eric Benesch followed with two goals. Dylan Price played all 90 minutes in goal for Mars Hill and made 16 saves.
T.C. Whaley led Queens with a goal and an assist. Joe Taylor scored a goal, had nine ground balls and won 11-18 face-off attempts. Brandon Macknew also played 60 minutes in the net for Queens and made 15 saves.
MHC out shot Queens, 37-32 and edged the Royals in ground balls, 31-30.
Mars Hill will await the pairings of the Deep South Conference
Tournament that will be announced on Sunday.
